Education, Advancement & Class Structure

All Rifoontahntee are schooled from the age of five to the age of thirty in the public school system. At the age of thirty they can attend advanced schooling (such as leaning the art of age book writing, studying law, studying medicine, etc.) provided they have either sufficent funding to pay for this education or they have a benefactor. If they do not have the funding and cannot find a benefactor then they go into an apprenticeship program for one of the unskilled trades. If they have a benefactor they go through an additional 10-15 years of Secondary Schooling (depending on their studies) followed by an additional 20 years of service to their benefactor and/or the benefactor's family. Some occupations require additional trade schooling after the Secondary Schooling either during, or prior to, the 20 years of service to one's benefactor. This sounds like a long time but Rifoontahntee generally have lifespans of about two and a half to three centuries.

Some occupations (such as librarian) have a mix of positions - some requiring Secondary Schooling, some not. Therefore, the best chance for advancement a person can get, if they cannot afford secondary schooling and do not have a benefactor, is to try to get a job in one of these occupaions and become the apprentice of someone who has had seconadry schooling.

There is some distict stratification among the Rifoontahntee/Ronay based on the amount of education one has. The highest stratas are occupied by those who have had not only the 10-15 years of Secondary Scooling but also additional trade schooling unique to their occupatrion. Below them are those who had Secondary Schooling but not any trade schooling. Next are those who have not had formal Secondary Schooling but they have gone through apprenticeship in one of the "crossover" occupations under someone who has had Secondary Schooling. Lower still are those still going through such apprenticeship. Near the bottom are those who have had, or are going through, apprenticeship in one of the unskilled trades. Lowest are those who have had trouble with the law in the past.
