Handling "Ages"

All original books that establish a link to an age - called Age books - if they are approved by the ministry of Justice, are kept in the T'sahn Rifoon Central Library in the capital. The books there are under guard and locked so only authorized government officals can access the books. Approved books can either be public access or private access. A writer has to pay the government a hefty fee to maintain private access so only the wealthiest Ronay have them. Public access books are scouted out for a suitable arrival location and then a linking book is written to that location for every library in the Age Library System.

The Ronay of T'sahn Rifoon do not have a rigid class structure but their civilization does have some distinct stratification based on schooling. Those who attend Secondary Schooling have a higher status in their culture than those who don't. However, while only those trained in The Art can write age books or linking books, all Ronay can access ages free of charge at a local age library.

Of course the Age libraries of Tsahn Rifoon are not like public libraries of our world in one aspect. You cannot "check out" books for a couple of weeks and then return them. The books stay chained to the shelves and the Ronay use them to link out to another age. Infrequntly accessed ages are put back on the shelf by the librarians making their rounds. Frequently accessed ages are chained to pedestals to make their frequent use more conveinent. Another duty of the librarians is to periodically check all ages to ensure the entry location to the age is still in good condition, e.g not underwater, not in a cave in, etc. Since there are so many ages in a library, it generally takes about 250 librarians to check all the ages in the required amount of time. Some librarians are unskilled laborers and others are trained in the art of age maintenence.
